What does the current Palestinian/Israeli conflict have to do with Orson Hyde? Read on.

On this date, October 24 1841, the Apostle Orson Hyde one of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, climbed the Mount of Olives and by assignment from the Prophet Joseph Smith, dedicated the land for the return of the Jews.  That prayer can be found here:

Few in Nauvoo, where the Latter Day Saints resided understood the mission that Elder Hyde had been called to fulfill.  Even Elder Hyde's companion left him in England.  At the time, what is now Israel was part of the Ottoman Empire.  No nation of "Palestine" existed.  At the end of World War I, and the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, the British Protectorate of Palestine was created.  What was the intent of the British?  Before Hitler took over Germany and started his monstrous genocide of not just Jews, but of the undesirables as well, the British designated its protectorate as a homeland for the Jews.  Hitler planned to exterminate the Jews, but he also planned to get them out of Germany, out of sight, out of mind.

Since Elder Hyde's dedication, the promise of Israel being fruitful has been fulfilled, where a desert has been turned into a garden, (at least in places).  While the promise of the rebuilding of a temple has, as yet, not been fulfilled, the gathering place for Israel is occurring.

Nothing is by accident, and if you are a person of faith, then you probably believe that there are no coincidences either.  God's plan will go forward, we just choose which side we are on.

a masterpiece

I received an invitation from a good friend to sing in a choir for an upcoming conference.  Of course, I am kind of a closet groupie for the director and her husband, and so the answer was easy.  But then it became irresistible. My favorite arrangement of my favorite hymn in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' hymnal.  I missed the first rehearsal, but attended tonight, and will next week as well. December 7, 1941, a day that will live in Infamy. How will yours be? #LIGHTtheWORLD

Seventy Five years ago, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, drawing the United States into World War II.  A war that literally spanned the globe.  Hundreds of millions of people with their lives directly impacted.  An attack that its architect knew would doom his homeland, and yet out of duty to country and to his Emperor, planned and executed it. This is very important to understand. While I know that it is extremely unlikely that the actions that I take will impact more than a handful of people, I have come to realize that it is those small interactions, replayed billions of times the world over every day, by billions of people, that make a lasting difference.  It doesn't matter whether we pay attention or not, the mere actions we take do ripple across the world.
