The end of the Christmas season

El Dia de los Reyes.

January 6th is the day in Spain that is celebrated as the day that the wise men arrived to pay homage to a King.  I can't speak as to how, or if, it is celebrated anywhere else, but I do remember on my mission, exchanging gifts that day.  I was doing splits with a newer missionary, in a new area, and he was Spanish. (Do not let the lack of a name mislead you, if I had my journal, I would know, as I am lousy with names, especially if there are few interactions), and we had small gifts for each other.  I learned about the holiday, and loved the fact that the day of gift giving was separate from celebrating the birth of the Savior.

I wore my wise men tie today, the only time recently that I have worn a tie to work in Twin. ( I did wear a tie when I went to do training in Seattle)  It was the last chance to wear a Christmas tie, and so I took it.  With sadness, I put it away, as well as my Christmas tree, for what potentially could be the last Christmas that I pass in Twin. I know, I was in KC for Christmas, but not today, so there.

I think of all the gifts that I have in life, and how important they are.  I also think that perhaps I am not very good at showing that gratitude, either to God, or to the friends that I have.  I am trying to focus my effort in the days, weeks and months ahead on being grateful, and showing that gratitude.  Imagine how hard it would have been for Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt without the gifts of the Magi to fund their way.  In the same vane, how often are we grateful for what we are given, and yet may not be fully aware of the import of that gift in our lives?

Miracles happen every day.  If we are looking with an eye of faith, we will see those miracles in our lives.  Some may think that things just happen, or it was fate, or karma, or coincidence.  I am not part of that group.  The Lord is active in this world, using the Holy Ghost to stir up angels in the forms of friends, families, and even complete strangers.  Even through our own minds, by stirring up memories, and guiding us in choices we make.

The Magi followed a Star, a star of prophesy, to the Son of God made flesh.  s

As we put away trees, ornaments, take candy to work to not have it at home, may we remember to focus on the light of Christ that shines throughout the year, and follow it, for it will truly lead us to the King of Kings.

Felicidades!
