Which way? Follow the light

Continuing the Star Child lyrics.

Some story line is required.  Chuck has given up trying to show Marie he can change.  He has left the mansion, and has gone to Marie's apartment to give her an ultimatum.  She either leave with him now to get married, (not in the temple) or she will never see him again.  He gives her an hour.

Marie is torn.  She loves Chuck. and she wants to go.  But she also knows that she wants more.  Sacred Covenants by proper authority, in the proper place.  Time and eternity.


Which way? Which way?  Which way do I go?
All my tomorrows, I hold in this moment, with the choice I’m making now.
Which way?  Which way?  It’s so hard to know.
The feelings are coming, from different directions
Which path do I take, which road?

If I’m wrong for him I want to know it.  But if I’m right for him, please let me feel it.
But if I stay with him I might regret it. Which way do I go?

The course I am to travel, the road that I follow.
I must choose the right one some how.

In the original screen play, at this point Candy comes in.  In the DVD the characters of Candy and Betty Lou are combined,  She starts to ask what she is doing.

Betty Lou: Marie don’t do something you’ll regret.
Marie: But what if I’m the only one that can save him?
Betty Lou: The only one that can save Chuck, is Chuck.
Marie: I just want to do what’s right.

Marie picks up the chorus, At this point Betty Lou joins in for the duet, telling her to "follow the light".

So, when Chuck showed up with an engagement ring, what did Marie do?  Chuck promised Marie forever, which reminded Marie that the future Chuck promised was anything but forever.  She said no.  And he left.  More on Chuck later, but Marie was brokenhearted for a long period of time.  She truly loved him, and wondered whether she made the right decision.  I guess I should say that she wondered about the decision.  She knew it was the right one.  And that did ease the pain, but only little.

I am truly blessed to have this music available to me.  Doug Steward, the lyricist, was spot on.

a masterpiece

I received an invitation from a good friend to sing in a choir for an upcoming conference.  Of course, I am kind of a closet groupie for the director and her husband, and so the answer was easy.  But then it became irresistible. My favorite arrangement of my favorite hymn in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' hymnal.  I missed the first rehearsal, but attended tonight, and will next week as well. December 7, 1941, a day that will live in Infamy. How will yours be? #LIGHTtheWORLD

Seventy Five years ago, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, drawing the United States into World War II.  A war that literally spanned the globe.  Hundreds of millions of people with their lives directly impacted.  An attack that its architect knew would doom his homeland, and yet out of duty to country and to his Emperor, planned and executed it. This is very important to understand. While I know that it is extremely unlikely that the actions that I take will impact more than a handful of people, I have come to realize that it is those small interactions, replayed billions of times the world over every day, by billions of people, that make a lasting difference.  It doesn't matter whether we pay attention or not, the mere actions we take do ripple across the world.
