Freedom has a price. It always has, and that price is life.

Now don't go thinking that I have posted this in the wrong blog.  The politics of today have nothing to do with liberty, or freedom.  But to investigate this, we need to hit the way back machine.

Disclaimer, that there is SOME opinion, so I represent myself, and no one else.

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were living in paradise.  They had to but reach out and pick fruit to eat.  There was no danger in attacks by animals, and since no one else was there, there was no reason for fear.  It was a perfect place.  Well, almost perfect.  No, of course as it was created by God, the garden was perfect.  Adam and Eve went about their day, not suffering, yet not experiencing true happiness either.  No sadness, but no real joy either.  They were just there.  And then there was that tree.

Too many people have castigated Mother Eve for being the first to partake of the fruit.  We know the story, she was "tricked" into eating it.  In reality, I suspect that by the time Lucifer came around with the fruit, she had come to realize that the two commandments given, 1. To not partake of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and 2. To be fruitful and multiply, were in conflict.  Obeying the first would render them unable to obey the second.  Disobeying the first would bring promised death.  She saw no choice but to eat the fruit.  She helped Adam understand that there was no choice but to do so.  Adam and Eve chose the ability to choose between right and wrong, even though it meant death.  And so Adam and Eve became truly mortal, as did the world.  They chose to work for their daily bread, rather than just living in their Edenic state.

Yesterday was Memorial Day.  Regardless of how you may feel about wars that are about today, the bottom line is that out of respect for the families of those who felt they were doing the right thing, we should respect their sacrifice.  This holiday began after the Civil War, where over 600,000 Americans were killed as they fought brother against brother, to cleanse slavery from this nation.  Followed up with the Spanish American War, and the War to End all Wars (if only).  WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East conflicts.  The soldiers went to fight for freedom.   Don't blame the dead.

Think of those who have died, or were threatened with death to practice their religion overseas.  Or to vote in a new democracy.  They were very willing to pay the price.  As were we all, before we came to earth.

Before the Garden, we were all together as children of our Heavenly Father.  He gave us this plan, where we could come to earth, and choose to do as we will, knowing that He provided a Savior for us, One who would walk the earth perfectly, and though incomprehensible to us, was able to pay the price for the sins of all mankind, as well as to redeem us from the death brought to earth by Adam and Eve.   We all chose the freedom to learn, to grow, to succeed, and yes, to fail.  We have a lot of learning to do, but knowing that if we err, (and we will, FYI) that the Atonement of Jesus Christ will lift us up, all we have to do is do our best to follow Him.  Through repentance, we can know that the price to be paid, was paid already.

Freedom has a price.  And always it is high.  Whether He paid, or you pay. it really is YOUR CHOICE!
