Restoration of the Priesthood of God to man on the earth. #VisionofLove
"We believe that man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof."
This is known as the Fifth Article of Faith of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The Articles of Faith were part of what is known as the Wentworth Letter, where the prophet Joseph Smith outlined basic tenets of the LDS, or Mormon faith. On May 15, 1829, while translating the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, and his scribe Oliver Cowdery had questions regarding the priesthood and the authority to baptize. They retired to the banks of the Susquehanna River to pray and receive revelation. What faith to know that God will answer prayers. I add my witness to theirs. He will. He does, and He always has. Are you listening?
While praying, a heavenly messenger descended to them. He announced himself as John, the same known as the Baptist, and he was acting under direction of Peter, James, and John. He laid his hands upon them, and said:
"Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah, I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken from the earth until the sons of Levi do offer again a offering unto the Lord in righteousness." Doctrine & Covenants 13
He said that the authority to confer the Holy Ghost would come later. And it did. Later that summer, the Melchizedek Priesthood was restored. Following that restoration, other keys were restored, culminating on April 6, 1830. On that date, the keys to the gathering of Israel were restored, as well as the dispensation of Abraham, and finally, Elijah came with the keys to the sealing power, that were given to Peter in old times. The ability to seal families together. Or as Malachi states:
"Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and dreadful day of the Lord:
And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to the fathers, lest I come and strike the earth with a curse" Malachi 4:5-6 KJV
God's kingdom is a kingdom of order. The priesthood was restored to a prophet called of God, by prophecy, and the laying on of hands by those with authority. I know, you are saying, here we go, angels. But surely if one believes that the Son of God could take upon Himself the sins of the world, is it that hard to believe in angelic messengers?
With this authority, the ability to seal families together, not just for this life, but for time and all eternity was restored. The Father's Plan is truly able to go forth, for the living, and the dead.
