#BecauseofHim

Last year, the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson issued a challenge to the membership of the church and the people of the world.  He asked that we no longer refer to the church as "the Mormon Church" nor to members of the faith as "Mormons"  While the church for several years has asked media to use the full name of the church in its reports on the church, this was a new push.  It was reemphasized in last October's General Conference address.  You can find that link here.

It is a very moving talk.  President Nelson spoke with power and authority.  Do you know how hard it is to refer to the Church every time as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints?  Yet, I do, and if you ask me if I am a Mormon, I will politely tell you that that is a nickname that I would prefer not to use.  The prophet was so moving that it was easy to change that thing.  It is with awe that I see what the Church has done this past year to adjust all of their social media, as well as apps and materials to purge terms like LDS, or Mormon Church.  The main website for the church LDS.org has been changed to ChurchofJesusChrist.org  The website for those curious about the church, focused primarily on people who are not members, was Mormon.org, which was easy to find, and to affiliate, has been changed to, appropriately enough:  ComeuntoChrist.org  These changes are consistent with the ideal that the church truly is Christ's church, and it is not in our case "Mormon's Church".

For those not familiar with our faith, we believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world.  We believe that Christ restored His Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith.  We believe in continuing revelation, spiritual gifts, and that the church is governed on earth by the Priesthood of God, restored to man first by John the Baptist and later, the keys to govern the church were restored by Peter, James, and John, Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ in the ancient church.  That authority has been passed down to this day where President Nelson serves at the head of the church.  Apostles of Christ again offer their special witness to the resurrected Christ to the world.

Of course, none of this is what I sat down to write on, as I wanted to point again to the link ComeuntoChrist.org  Why?  Well, as we approach the Easter Season, I want to offer to all to Come unto Him.  To recognized the sacrifice that was willingly given by the Son, in obedience to His Father.  Where we recognize the suffering that our Lord went through, taking upon Himself the sins of the world.  He lived for us, He died for us.  On the third day He took His body up, now glorified and perfected, so that at some point we will also be freed from the death of the body.  He suffered in Gethsemane so that we would be freed from our separation from God, to be able to repent and enter His kingdom.

And what better time to celebrate in worship with fellow Saints of Jesus Christ than on Easter?  The opportunity to express gratitude to the One who has freed all of us from the tomb.

April 21 you can come worship with us.  Here is the link again to ComeuntoChrist.org by the way, if you try the old link, Mormon.org, it will have a meetinghouse locator tool..

I will just close with this link of the greatest Easter song of all time.  Performed by the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, and thousands of others, virtually, including me.  By the way, I am not saying it is the best performance ever, just the most Easter song of all Easter Songs.
