wanted to amend this post to make it clear to all that while I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the views expressed are my own, even when explaining doctrine of the Church, I am simply giving my point of view on the doctrine, and not stating the doctrine as a spokesman for said church.  This applies to all mentions of doctrine of the church,  past, present, and future.

I have been reluctant to go political on this space.  I save it for things of a spiritual nature, though in these times these things often collide.  This is the case with the previous post regarding origination of rights.  Yes, I overused the quotation remarks regarding the term rights, but it needed to be done to understand what is at stake.

To show the tie in, I am going to write about a portion of the Plan of Salvation, God's plan for us on this earth.  I am not going to quote scripture here, but there are references in Revelation, as well as modern day revelation contained in the canon of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Before we came to earth, we were taught the plan of our Heavenly Father.  We knew that coming to earth would not be easy, and that we would make mistakes.  Because of this, part of the plan was that a Savior would be provided.  One that would take upon himself the sins of the world, and if we had faith in Christ, repented of our sins, and endure to the end, that we would be redeemed and return to live with the Father and Son in their kingdom.  This experience and knowledge gained is essential to our eternal progression.

An alternative was brought up by Lucifer, Son of the Morning, known today as Satan.  His plan was that there would be no agency, that we would all be perfect, and that we would all return.  Because of that he felt that he should be glorified above the Father.   Thus began the War in Heaven, with its inevitable conclusion, and Satan and his followers were cast out.  Never to be heirs of the Father.

This is why the concept of freedom, or agency is so important.  Next to the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the agency given is the greatest gift God gave us.  That is what Thomas Jefferson meant in the Declaration.  All people yearn for freedom.  When people suggest suspending rights, or talk about redistributing property in the name of the rights of others, simply put, who does that sound like?  From the dawn of civilization, there have been those who sought to rule over others.  Those who, through either strength of arms, or through inheritance felt that it was their right to rule have been the norm, not the rule.  This nation was built on the idea that men, left to their own designs could fulfill their potential, and they were right.  Only when rights are rationed, or redistributed, are we limited.

Satan is real.  He has been fighting since the beginning of this earth to reign, and thwart the will of God.  He has lost, he will lose, and the only question is how many will he take with him when he is banished.
