The Dream goes on!

It amazes me, that music that I haven't sang for years seems to just come naturally to me.  I had heard an urban legend about Jan and Dean and how one of them had been in an accident, and while he could no longer speak, was able to sing, as the part of the brain that processes memories was still intact.  Don't know if it is true or not, but tonight, as always when singing a once familiar tune, I am able to easily sing the music (not that it doesn't need work, FYI)

Tonight, I had the opportunity to go and sing with the Mormon Chorale.  not a performance, but a rehearsal.  I cried in happiness inside at being there.  At being directed by an amazing director, who seems to be tireless in her enthusiasm.  The organist was amazing, as were the pianists. They are putting together a series of concerts and programs during the summer.  That they would allow me to sit in with them, to sing with them with such a tight deadline brought me true happiness, even if for just a moment or two.  How I love them all.  I had sang a couple of the pieces previously, and had heard of a couple others.  What shocked me was how familiar I was with a couple of pieces that had only recently been written, specifically for one of the events this summer.  I have no idea why it felt familiar, but it seemed to be.

One of their presentations is a Pioneer day celebration.  For those not familiar, Pioneer Day celebrates July 24, 1847, when the Mormons arrived in the Salt Lake Valley.  It is a state holiday in UT, and members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints celebrate it all over the nation.  Patriotic in nature, with songs paying tribute to those that went before, this event should be wonderful.  I do see some irony singing patriotic songs, as it was the government of the state of Illinois that refused to protect prisoners under its custody, and the apathy of a federal government that looked the other way when a people were denied their property, driven out of their homes, and their right to worship as they would.

For event information in the Kansas City area  the Chorale website is:

Do I need to throw a disclaimer about not representing the chorale with this post?  Consider it disclaimed.

How I love the members of this faithful group.   How I love the director, and her encouragement.  I would not love music to the extent I do, had it not been for her.  I have always enjoyed music, but she showed me how to truly love it.  Her husband sits in the back, and sings bass. He is truly an amazing arranger, composer, musician, and singer.  And yet, he takes the time to talk to me, and to help me to understand the mechanics of music.

I am blessed.
