A Vision of Love

Does the title draw your curiosity?

Life requires vision.  It requires purpose.  We weren't born with it.  Or were we?  We can't remember our life before, of course, but we did live before we came to earth.  Last year I asked these three questions:

Who are we?

Where did we come from?

Why are we here?

What happens after we die?

Okay, there were four.  I also answered them, briefly, but pointed out the pageant also answered them in a familial setting.  Well...

This year, the Families are Eternal series returns with "Vision of Love"  a story of Harold and Penny who could easily be you and me, and their experiences.  I will write more on this wonderful tale as rehearsals go, but wanted to give a sneak peak.  First.

On April 21 at 7pm you can preview some of the music for this wonderful pageant at a special presentation at the Visitor's Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

937 Walnut St, Independence, MO.  All are invited.

Do you wonder about these questions?  One place you can go for these answers is mormon.org and if you ask, they will answer your questions as best they can.  I promise they won't send the young men with white shirts and ties, unless you ask them to.  Or you can ask me, and I will be glad to answer if I can.

I am being moved by this music, by this message, and two songs in particular.  While there are a few different lyricists in this wonderful program, Larry Beebe arranged the music for all of it.  Larry, and his wife Alice, are Larice Music (hymns.com) and besides running their own business, they are involved in so many things.  They truly exemplify the love of the Savior.  I won't go on about them, but suffice to say, you would not be reading anything from me without my knowing them.

Wow, talk about distracted. The first song that really impacted me practicing was

My Peace Be With You, with text by a frequent collaborator Barbara G. Dykstra.

It is the Savior's message to us, after His resurrection.  Asking us to receive his peace, to receive Him.  It is a soulful song, a pleading song.  As I listened to it, and sang with it, I realized that it was singing to us, to me.  The Savior died for us.  He paid the price for us.  All we have to do is submit ourselves to Him, and after doing so, spread His message to the world.  Who doesn't want peace in these times, in spite of these times?  Never was a message more needed.

The other is the title song, Vision of Love, with text by Alice Beebe.  It sets the tone for the whole program.

Once upon a time
And oh, so long ago
We saw a vision of love
See the plan and workmanship of God,
Created for you, for all to share,

Once upon a time
We pledged our lives to him
We saw his vision for us
Promises-for all to keep
This we gave to him once upon a time

Once upon a time
His love for us was shown
He gave direction to all
Gospel truths to guide us in our lives, forever
So feel and live, live his love

Once upon a time
And oh, so long ago,
We saw a vision of love
Hold on tight and learn to resist temptation

And set your goals high, then climb up
Make your dreams clear, then live them
The vision of love is here for you to share.

The plan of salvation laid out for us.  We chose to follow our Father in Heaven, and His plan for us.  It is out of His love for us that He offered His Son, His Only Begotten in the Flesh, to die so that we can return to live with Him again.  Christ's willingness to submit to the Father set the ultimate example for us.

Another opportunity to learn of God's Plan for you.  A plan that you knew, and accepted, once upon a time.
