On MY honor #VisionofLove and the gift of agency.

As I was working, I came across an old friend at Camp, and his first question to me was:

What do you think about the church's move on Scouting?

Of course, he asked as we were trying to get to breakfast, so I didn't have time for the discussion I would have loved to have with him.  We talked about this and that, and how the Boy Scouts are changing.  They are a target of the left, for a number of reasons.  The demand to believe in a God, the tearing down of morals, which the Oath and Law still stand, if not in defiance of the changing mores of society, then as a beacon to guide back to the path that strengthens society in so many ways.

Duty to God.  Right off, this idea of a higher power, in spite of all the "enlightenment" of the day, rubs so many the wrong way.  Because if there is a God, then there is likely accountability, and consequences, at least in the Judeo-Christian world.

Duty to Country.  Not to be blind to the faults of governments, there are plenty, but for the ideals upon which this nation is founded.  The ideals of liberty, and equality, not of outcome, but opportunity.

Obey the Scout Law. A twelve point guide for living. These points should be a universal guide to how we interact with each other, and that we are better off if we follow them.

To help other people at all times. Pretty self-explanatory, right?  Not because we are coerced by an outside force, but to develop within us a charitable disposition towards our fellowmen. To help those that are unable to help themselves, to lend a hand to those in need.

And then the personal goals: to keep physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.  the physical, the mental, and the spiritual, or emotional.  To treat ourselves as we know we should.

Of course, all of these are under attack.  But what gets those attacking more than any of these are three words. They are the words of the individual in a tidal wave of collective action, where individuals are only part of the group, whatever group that may be.  Instead of We, or, They, or You (as in you all), these words stand in stark contrast to the world, and more than anything else, must be torn down.  It is what makes the Eagle Scout so unique, but it applies equally to all scouts, and scouters.  Know what they are?

On My Honor.

This is a personal promise.  While we may recite the Oath and Law as a Patrol, Troop, or even an entire Scout Camp at a Wednesday night campfire, those words are not "We the collective"  Or "we the troop/patrol".  They are simply, On MY Honor.  I, as an individual,  was given agency from God to act as I will.  To choose to do good, to make mistakes, to repent, to strive to live God's Laws, and to live as Jesus did. To be held to account.

On MY Honor,
I will do MY best.
to do MY duty to God,
and MY country.
To OBEY the Scout Law.
To HELP other people at all times
To KEEP MYSELF physically strong
Mentally Awake, and
Morally Straight.

There is no WE in the oath, but only I.  Progressives, and those who group us into this group, or that group, by defining characteristics that facilitate those divisions, do so to divide us, and hate the idea of the individual. An individual stands alone, even when they stand with others.  Yes, we can share ideals, and we can and do share purpose, but ultimately, it is my oath, and my promise.  Not my boss'es.  Mine.

It was a great discussion, and look forward to a more in depth discussion on the subject that originally brought it up.

From the hills and valleys of Camp Geiger.  Observing God's vision for us, first hand. A #VisionofLove for all of us, individually.
