#LighttheWord Shining the way with the light of Christ

On Sunday, December 23rd, in the chapels of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints around the world, a special meeting will be held.  You are invited!

It is a special meeting, with the focus on the Savior Jesus Christ.  As we do every week, we will participate in the Sacrament, symbolizing the Last Supper, taking upon ourselves covenants, to take upon ourselves His name, to always remember him, and to keep His commandments.  In exchange, we are promised that His spirit will be with us.  This is the primary reason that we meet weekly.  Besides that sacred ordinance, or rite, we are instructed.

At times we are instructed by our leaders, but usually we are instructed by members of the congregation.  For those that do not know, on the local level, leaders of the Church are called by one having authority, and serve.  They maintain their jobs and lives, and are unpaid.

Sorry about that explanatory diversion. On the 23rd, we will be having a special meeting.  Each meeting will be different, in that there will be different hymns, and different speakers, with different messages, to a point.  The one thing in common throughout the world will be that the meeting will focus on celebrating the birth of the Savior.  The star shining over Bethlehem, and the light brought to all of mankind.

I am not sure if there are those not of my faith that read this blog or not.  While I do write mostly for myself, I share in the hope that someone, somewhere, may be impacted by the words.  With that in mind, let me share with you a few feelings that I have been having lately.

It started last week when I was visiting paradise, the Snake River valley.  I attended a performance entitled "Come to Bethlehem" in Twin Falls.  For three years I participated in that event.  I knew every song, with no rehearsal, I probably could have gone up and sang with them, as if I hadn't missed a single practice.  I was near tears through the beginning, and it was so hard to not sing out loud.  (I did sing quietly).

It continues this week, as meetings and assignments kept me from rehearsing with our local choir for next week.  I was going to attend a rehearsal for a different choir tonight, but something came up that prevented me from going.  I am not sure how to explain my feeling right now.  How I desire to sing, to share my voice in prayer to my Father in Heaven.  No words here can express that feeling.  I am saddened by the very likelihood of not singing in a choir anywhere next week.  It won't stop me from singing the congregational hymns, of course.

Again, another diversion.  I apologize.

If you don't know about our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you can find answers to any questions you may have at mormon.org  You can also find a place to attend.  You may find that we are Christians as well, celebrating the birth of Him who saved the world.  In Paola, the meeting begins at 10:00 am.

If you do know, or maybe are, or were a member, you are invited to attend as well.  All seeking Him are invited into our meetinghouses next week.  Come as you will.  The Savior loves all his children.  Appearances don't matter,  the past doesn't matter, all that does is the desire to know Him.

Come and feel His light.  Feel his love.  Am I setting the bar too high?  Will you be judgemental of us?  More importantly, will we be judgemental of you?  I pray that we will not be.  That I will not be.

I leave you with my testimony that Christ lived.  That he was born, and lived.  He bore our burdens, and suffered for our sins so that we won't have to.  He was killed, and buried in a borrowed tomb.  On the third day, he rose from the dead, crowned in glory.  This is the Christ that we honor this time of the year.  Do you believe?  Join with us, December 23rd, finding a meetinghouse near you at
