#BecauseofHim The Book of Mormon.

No, not the musical.  I haven't seen it, don't anticipate seeing it, not because I feel it is heresy, or whatever.  It is irreverent, I have heard, but should that surprise anyone?  After all, it is written by the makers of South Park.  I wonder why we haven't seen a broadway musical "the Quran"?  hmm.

I wanted to write a moment, and share a video.  The video, released by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, explains the Book of Mormon, its origin, and what it means to members of the Church of Jesus Christ.  It was referred to by critics of the restored church as "that golden Bible" and many claimed that we worshiped Mormon.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  We esteem Mormon as the prophet that compiled the record that became the Book of Mormon, for the heroic work he did in very trying times.  The term "Mormon" was originally an epithet hurled at members of the church in the early days.  As time passed, it became a nickname, and while not representing in whom we believe, it became a manner that we are easily identified.

Last year, the President of the Church, Russell M. Nelson, asked members to stop using the term Mormon, to not refer to themselves "as a Mormon", but rather as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, or as members of the Church of Jesus Christ, or the restored Church of Jesus Christ, if the full name is too long.  As the video shared below indicates, we worship Christ as Savior of the World, the promised Messiah.  Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, to quote Isaiah, or if you are like me, singing Handel quoting Isaiah. (and you probably said the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace twice if you sung Handel)

Sorry, sidetrack.  The church is in the process of renaming its web pages, and other brands to be compliant to the will of the Lord, for that is what was expressed through His prophet.  Now the Book of Mormon.  I won't go into details about what is in the Book, including its ancient origin, it is in the video.  I want to just talk about how it came to be published today.

It was received by the young Joseph Smith Jr. and was translated by the power of God.  It was given to him by an angel, and when he was done, it was received by an angel. (when I say given, it is that the angel showed Joseph where they were buried, and permitted them to be given to Joseph when he was ready.)  Joseph Smith had the education of an elementary student, and to imagine that he wrote it on his own is nearly laughable.

If you are not a member of the restored church of Jesus Christ you may be thinking that that all sounds so fantastic.  An angel?  Delivering gold plates to a farm boy?  And he translated them?  Of course, I would point out that if you are Christian as I am, whether Catholic, Protestant, or whatever your faith creed, you believe some pretty fantastic things.  You believe that God was born of Mary, that he lived without sin.  That he somehow took upon himself the sins of the world and was able to heal the sick make the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame walk.  He even commanded the dead to rise.  Then He was crucified, that most horrible of deaths, and on the 3rd day, he rose from the dead, resurrected, glorified, perfected.  So you are concerned about God helping a young man translate a record?

Open the Book of Mormon to any page.  Christ's name or one of his titles appears in the 500+ page book more than 3,500 times.  It is Another Testimony of Jesus Christ.  I would challenge all to read and learn from it.

I readily add my testimony to those that have read the teachings in the Book, and have asked God, in the name of His Son if it is true.  It is.  It teaches the gospel of Jesus Christ, and is truly a companion to the Bible to testify of Christ.

Have an open mind.  Listen to the history, and if you open the book, and read it, it will strengthen your faith in Christ if you believe already.  If not, and you want to know, you can.
