May 15

or to put it another way:

Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.  Doctrine and Covenants Section 13

I couldn't resist the Spanish, that was how I first memorized it.  On May 15, 1829, on the banks of the Susquehanna River, the resurrected John the Baptist conferred upon Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery the Aaronic Priesthood.  While the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ was well underway, the authority of God had finally been restored.  Followed later by the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood under the hands of Peter, James, and John, the blessings of the gospel were finally to be realized on this earth in the latter days.  To quote the 5th Article of Faith:

We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

As I reflect on this anniversary, my thoughts are on the temple.  The eternal ordinances performed in the House of the Lord never cease to amaze me.  The simplicity, and yet depth of understanding varies person to person, and their spiritual plane at the moment, but the underlying peace of leaving the world behind is always welcome.

The one thing that has been pulling on me recently, is that I attend alone.  That hasn't bothered me so much, but the last couple of weeks, while attending, there have been newly called missionaries being prepared to go out unto the world, and sisters who are preparing to enter into eternal marriage covenants, with their fiances attending as well.  I am not sure how to explain what I am feeling, but don't know how to put in words here.  Thoughts of family are always on my mind, and maybe that is part of it.

Here is what I know.  Because of the restoration of the priesthood, the saving ordinance of baptism was once again available to mankind.  Because of the restoration of Priesthood keys, the sealing ordinances of the temple are once again on the earth.  For that I say Hallelujah!!  And express gratitude to a loving Heavenly Father.
