The City of Enoch.

In the Bible, the little we know about Enoch is that he is the son of Jared, and a great-great-great-great-grandson of Adam, and that contrary to the other patriarchs, who died, the Bible states that "And Enoch walked with God: and was not; for God took him." Genesis 5:24 KJV

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints has more revealed truth on Enoch;  Enoch built a city and prophesied unto the people, the righteous gathered to the city, the wicked were helpless against the city, and the people were so righteous that God took up the city, Zion, and its people.  Moses 6-7 Pearl of Great Price https://www.lds.org/scriptures/pgp/moses/6?lang=eng

As always, belief and understandings of teachings are in the eyes and hearts of the reader.  I do not mock any religion, in fact, I try to respect others as much as possible.  What goes from here is personal observation, not necessarily doctrine.  If you want to know more, you can read the link above,or go to mormon.org  and there will be those willing to chat online, watch some videos, or review some common questions and answers, or arrange for a visit.

We discussed Enoch today, and his attitude towards God at all times, in the aforementioned book of Moses.

I can only imagine a city full of such righteous people that the Lord would take it up.  While the book of Moses does explain the growth and spiritual maturity of Enoch, it doesn't go into detail on the growth of the people of Enoch.  And this is where we need to have patience with ourselves, and as important, those around us.

People aren't perfected overnight.  It takes years of service, of love for fellowman.  Of course to be clear, man is not, and CANNOT be perfected in and of himself.  This is the great deception that Satan would have you believe.  Man (of course referring to mankind, and not males exclusively) can only be perfected (as  the Savior commanded) through Him.  Through Him who was perfect.  The Only Begotten of the Father, Jesus Christ.  So picture this:

A city is begun by Enoch's followers.  No one is forced to live there, in fact, people choose to do so.  There are no laws, only the teachings of the Lord's prophet, Enoch.  Those that choose to follow them find happiness, and contentment, while those who initially seek out the city because of a perceived naivety of the people, expecting to plunder, may do so initially, but with the kindness of those living there, turning the other cheek, offering additional goods, they eventually feel the Spirit of the city, and repent, or feel guilt and leave.  As they live the precepts of the Gospel, they grow closer in spirit.

Remember, during this time, the sons of Adam are becoming more and more wicked.  Attacks are made on the city, but as God has given power to Enoch, the city is protected, to the point where no attacks are made.  Ultimately, the wickedness consumes men until the Flood.  Only Noah, his sons, and their wives are spared of mankind.

People aren't perfect, and certainly the people of Enoch did not just become righteous overnight.  It was a work of years.  As the people became more righteous, more inspiration was given, more blessings received.  Ultimately, the law of Consecration was given, and many entered into this law willingly.  No doubt,  a long the way, people did turn away, but more came.  It was as if the righteous of the earth were drawn in.

It took years.  We will take millennia to be perfected.  We know that we can't in this lifetime.  That is okay.  Remember, people in those days lived hundreds of years.  We must know that with faith, and by striving to live the way Christ did, we will be perfected through Him, and it will be enough.

In the mean time.  We should build our own Zion.  Starting in our homes, it isn't too late.  As we establish Zion in our homes, we seek to expand it.  Reaching out to our brothers and sisters of mankind.  Never judging, but with forgiving hearts, reach out to those who have wronged us.  In short, we need to be "our brother's keepers".

I just finished a book today, but will not mention it, as I want to surprise certain people with it as a gift.  When I get it, and get the books going to the people intended, I will mention it, and link it.
