Without the law, what is left?

So many things on my mind this past weekend.  But one of the things that came to me was in regards to laws, justice, and God.  I think that a large part of it came from the fact that Judge Gorsuch was repeatedly asked about rulings being "fair", and standing up for the little guy, and so on.  Because, after all, progressives do hate the idea that a judge would rule based on the law, rather than judge based on feelings.  And while that example has political implications, it really is so much bigger than that.

Usual disclaimer about my own opinion.

Could it be that that muddying of the law is why many progressives reject the idea of a religion teaching eternal truths?  That would explain a lot.  And for those that are wondering.  Yeah, I know that the law is mitigated for those accepting the Atoning blood of Jesus Christ.  But does it change?  No.

As far as the ultimate judge of mankind, He doesn't change, His Law hasn't changed, and can't.  If so, He would cease to be God.  With flexibility in law, justice cannot exist.  This is one of the things that people don't seem to understand in today's world.  Is it just for God, who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for the unspeakable things that happened, to say, "Oh, people have changed, it is okay now?"   How is that fair?  It's not.

I know that Christ came to fulfill the law.  And that all the sacrifices offered up by His children from Adam to Christ were all symbolic of Christ being offered as a sacrifice for mankind.  To suffer so that we do not.  To provide salvation that we are unable to do ourselves.  To be restored to stand before God, and receive our reward.

If ye love me, keep my commandments, He said.  John 14:15

Paul did teach that the law of Moses was no longer required among the followers of Christ.  I know that, but I also know that the commandments didn't change, in fact, a heavier burden was placed on those who follow.  The law revealed by Moses said "Thou shalt not commit adultery"  Christ said that simply lusting after a woman was committing adultery in the heart.  Big difference.

Of course, we are not perfect.  We sin.  I sin, none are perfect, save Christ.  By accepting Him, and demonstrating our faith through  the actions of repentance and obedience, our sins will be blotted out.

God is just.  His laws don't change.  If we find ourselves questioning why religion doesn't evolve with the times, maybe we should question whether a faith whose doctrine changes based on the culture has the ordinances and the teachings to guide us to back to our Father in Heaven.

Having said that, we should not judge others, actually, I think that was one of Christ's teachings.   All of us are individuals on individual paths through life.  We all have the ability to choose our actions, not our consequences.  Judgement by Christ will come.  Having suffered for us individually, He is uniquely qualified to sit in judgement.

And as to those appointed by government to sit in judgement regarding the civil law?  I would much rather have a judge who uses the law to examine the facts, rather than factor in whether I was the "little guy" or the big corporation.  What are the facts of the case?  A good place to start.
