25 Days of #LIGHTtheWORLD Now what?
A quick note. Having left Twin, no longer looking out over the Snake River Canyon. So the blog will probably continue, in the spirit of what I have been doing, but it is sad to be leaving.
Since December 1, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has been promoting the project #LIGHTtheWORLD to promote service as Christ served. Each day had a focus, and suggestions for how each of us could #LIGHTtheWORLD. On many of those days I posted, either here or simply on Facebook, a way that I lit the world. I did it, not to brag, or to say "look at me!" I did it to show people that it was easy, and that they were probably already doing lighting the world. I hoped to spread the word, to get people to realize that they too could #LIGHTtheWORLD.
I have been stuck in Rexburg for two days longer than what I expected due to weather. Stuck is a really bad choice of words. I have been with Callie, and so it has been okay. After all, being unemployed, what do I have to do, and where do I have to be? Today we woke to 6 inches of snow or more, and still coming down. Streets for the most part had not been plowed. I attended church with Callie, she is a member of one of the non-student YSA wards, and they had a four ward combined sacrament meeting. Testimony through music, and wonderful words from a Bishop. As we pulled out of the parking lot, we saw someone stuck. Not only stuck but he had parked in the parking on the street, and a road grader had plowed the street, and a large ridge blocked him in. After pushing futilely, we got snow shovels, and cleared a path. We still had to push, as it was high centered. Once out, he was on his way. Every little thing.
So today the initiative is concluded. Am I a disciple of Christ? If you mean that I have become without sin, or that I fully exhibit the Love of Christ, or Charity, on a daily, minute by minute basis, then no. But if you ask if I know that only Christ lived perfectly on this earth, and that I am a sinner in dire need of His Atonement, and that I strive to do better each day? Then yes, I qualify.
So what about tomorrow? Christians have often been accused, usually unjustly, but not always so, of thinking about others during the Christmas season, and then putting the sentiment away along with the tinsel and lights until next year. Tomorrow, we are on our own, no Advent Calendar, no touching videos, no suggestions of what we can do. Training wheels are off, So, short today but one question...
